Bezel Set Scroll Ring
This is the seventh project in Stage 3 of the Silver Program at Jewellery Training Solutions. When I first began making jewelry, I looked at some things and just couldn’t figure out how they would be made. I’m so excited to be working through this program and learning these things that were such a mystery to me.
What were the challenges?
Making the tapered bezel for this one was challenging and took me a couple of tries to get it right. But, I think I’m finally starting to get a handle on those. Soldering on the components to make the scrolls was challenging, too, since they’re very close together and it’s easy to unsolder a nearby joint or melt the tiny components.
Where could I improve?
I’m not happy with how the scrolls turned out - they are too flattened on the inside part of them and the general shape of the shoulders is off. Also, I thought I was happy with the polishing until I took the photos and saw all of the scratches still present. Photos definitely don’t lie, and they show every tiny defect!
What did I learn?
This project was a great one to learn how to solder on some decorative components and how to shape the shoulders. As I mentioned, I also have a much better understanding of making the tapered bezels. Cutting the seat for this stone went much better this time, too. It’s always encouraging to feel improvement.
