Goodbye 2020

Goodbye 2020

This has definitely been a year for the record books. So much has happened around the world, it’s difficult to wrap one’s head around the fact that all of it happened in one calendar year. While there is been so much pain, anxiety and hardship this year, there have definitely been some bright spots in my own life. I’ve really tried to focus on the bright spots so I didn’t get lost in the turmoil of this world we’re living in.

Up until November, my two oldest sons were living with us. It was crowded and chaotic in the house, but I cherish the time I was able to spend with them. Once they moved out, there was all of a sudden a chance to think a little more clearly, but I also miss them and am grateful that I still have two living with us. I was scheduled to do about a dozen shows this year, so I really felt the loss when everything began cancelling. With all of the newfound free time, however, I was able to really dedicate myself to learning, both my apprentice program through Jewellery Training Solutions and engraving. Thank heavens for online training and wonderful teachers!

I’ve had time to think about where I’ve been and where I would like to go. I have a very clear vision of what I want my work to be, and I’m diligently working on learning the skills I need to get there. I’m really looking forward to the future. Not only am I hoping for more bright spots in 2021 for everyone, but I will be even closer to reaching those visions.

I hope to be back at shows this year, at least in the last half of the year, and be able to once again connect face to face with my customers. In the mean time, I have much work to do, finishing my program and working on engraving. I also plan to begin to offer online jewelry-making lessons through Zoom, offering classes for a variety of skill levels.

At year’s end I always enjoy making a collage of all of the new pieces I have made in that year. I really enjoy seeing the progress and growth. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished this year, and looking forward I feel much hope. I wish you a very happy New Year and hope that 2021 brings a bit of magic into your lives.
