Pendant Engraving Kit

The art of engraving is difficult on many levels. Not only does it require precise graver control, but it also requires an ability to understand and draw the artwork to be engraved. Drawing is not one of my strengths, and this part of engraving has been more frustrating than the actual cutting, which is frustrating enough.

Sam Alfano, one of America’s top engravers and instructors, recently came out with a kit with the artwork to create eight different styles of pendants or key chains. This takes the artwork out of the equation so one can simply focus on cutting, and it’s well worth the investment. So far I’ve cut three of the patterns, and will need to cut them many more times to actually “get” it.

I’m very excited to be seeing and feeling improvement, but there is a very long way to go. I’m absolutely amazed by some of the work that I see and can’t imagine ever being able to work at that level!
