Thirteen Stone Cluster Ring

Thirteen Stone Cluster Ring

This is the final project from Stage 10 of the Apprentice program at Jewellery Training Solutions, the final stage of the training program. This project was beyond challenging, and there were several points when I didn’t think that I would be able to do it. While far from perfect, I’m quite happy with the outcome. And with this project, comes the completion of the program. There are still tons of lessons at JTS that I will watch, and attempt, but the push to finish is over. After completing this project, I know that I can do anything, as long as I’m willing to take it slow and steady, and do things multiple times.

What were the challenges?

Being the final project in the program, I expected it to be very difficult, and it didn’t disappoint. This project was one challenge after another, and incorporated just about every skill that we learned throughout the program.

Where could I improve?

Something I realized while I was making this, is that I don’t think my work will ever be “there.” There will always be room for improvement. I look forward to going back and remaking some of the early projects, since I know that I will see improvement. This one is the same way. If I ever do something like this again, I’m sure it will be better. I strove for perfection, but obviously that is not obtainable. Every part of it could be improved upon.

What did I learn?

This project was much less about learning than it was putting all of the pieces together. One thing I did learn, though, is that I can accomplish what seems impossible, as long as I’m willing to take it slow and steady, and to redo (and redo, and redo), and not forget to breathe. It’s ok to make mistakes - the next time will be better.

I’ve been pushing very hard these past weeks, trying to get through the program so I can shift my focus to new pieces and also really dive into engraving. My brain hurts, my hands hurt, my fingers are all cut up, sore and swollen, but this program was worth every bit of frustration, blood, sweat and tears. I feel so good at getting through, and I don’t think there are enough words to express my gratitude to Peter for putting together such an outstanding program.
