Wagon Wheel

This is one of the projects from Stage 5 of the Silver program at Jewellery Training Solutions. Now, this project was definitely a test of drilling and measuring skills. Each spoke and the hub needs to friction fit into place - no solder was used in this project except to create the initial ring.

What were the challenges?

The biggest challenge for me in making this project was creating the center hub. It took me a couple of tries to get the holes in exactly the right places so the spokes were straight.

Where could I improve?

There are a few tool marks on the spokes I wasn’t able to get out, and the wheel has a slight wobble to it when I put it on an axle and spin it. Unfortunately right at the end I put some tool marks in the hub as I was trying to straighten it out.

What did I learn?

Precision, precision, precision! Each hole had to be exactly the correct size so the spoke would friction fit, and at exactly the correct angle so everything would slide into place.
