Barrel Snap Catch
This is part of the fourth project from Stage 8 of the Apprentice program at Jewellery Training Solutions, a stage dedicated to learning advanced cutting skills and advanced setting construction. At last, this is the final project in this lesson! I had a lot of fun making this clasp, and I think it will be very useful. The best part of making all of these clasps is hearing that audible, “click” when it is closed!
What were the challenges?
I am thrilled to say that I didn’t find this project very challenging, especially compared to the last few! I did have to make the latch part three different times since I first soldered the button on to the wrong part, and next time I folded it backwards.
Where could I improve?
I would like the opening on the front of the clasp to be neater. It’s not completely square. But it does latch securely.
What did I learn?
I finally feel comfortable soldering on the small jump rings without using a third hand. It used to always take me forever to try to set it up to solder! I learned an easier way to create the little button, too.
