Interlocked Basket Ring
This is the third project in Stage 4 of the Silver Program at Jewellery Training Solutions. This ring was a lot of fun, and is set with an 8mm CZ.
What were the challenges?
One of the challenges of this style of ring is calculating what you need to obtain the correct size ring. I underestimated a little, so the ring is smaller than I had intended. The other issue I had was getting the ring that forms the base of the setting to be level and secure prior to soldering.
Where could I improve?
I don’t think the prongs are exactly placed symmetrically. Additionally, I thought I had the prongs nice and rounded, but looking at the photo they could be more round. I was just so excited to get the stone nice and secure in a prong setting, which I’ve always had trouble with!
What did I learn?
I think I’m finally understanding how to do the prong setting (and not cut the prongs too short). I’m gaining confidence, too, in my general skills. I can’t say enough good things about this program!
